gift of literacy!

When you make a gift to Literacy Council of Benton County, you not only help an adult student improve their English reading, writing, and speaking skills, you also help improve the quality of life for everyone in our community.   Consider these facts:

Based on information from the National Institute for Literacy, it is estimated that 45,000 adults in Benton County, Arkansas, are functionally illiterate.

25% of adults in Arkansas over the age of 25 do not have their high school diploma

70% of prisoners in state and federal systems are illiterate

85% of all gang members rate as functionally or marginally illiterate

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services says approximately 50% of the nation’s unemployed youth, ages 16 to 21, are functional illiterates.

When adults attend classes to improve their English, their children improve in their own studies

According to the Journal of the American Medical Association, 46% of American adults cannot understand the labels on their prescription medicine

A gift to Literacy Council of Benton County will help us recruit and train volunteer tutors, purchase adult-specific learning materials, pay our rent and modest salaries, and improve not only our students’ lives, but our workforce and community as a whole.

LCBC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization—your gift to us is tax deductible.  By opening your checkbook, you will make it possible for an adult to open a regular book—maybe for the first time!
